As Yoga Nidra teachers and practitioners, it’s natural to wonder how often we should use a particular Yoga Nidra meditation script. While there are many factors to consider when selecting the right script for our students or ourselves, one important factor is script familiarity.
While at first it might seem counterintuitive to repeat the same Yoga Nidra practice, repetition can actually be quite beneficial. When we repeat a script over multiple sessions, the familiarity can help us to more efficiently acclimate our awareness to the inner landscape.
Being familiar with a specific meditation helps us think less and sense more deeply. We can mentally follow along more easily, quieting the active thinking mind. We know where we’re headed, so we’re less inclined to wonder what might be coming next, so the brainwaves slow and become more synchronous more quickly. In this way, we transition more smoothly into the relaxed awareness that opens the deeper layers of the mind where we can commune with the bliss of our true nature and inhabit the Yoga Nidra mind state.
Script repetition also gives the opportunity to cultivate our ability to become effortlessly proficient with whatever set of techniques are being guided, promoting ease and relaxation and allowing us to receive the deepest benefits of our practice.
